Outdoor Cooking

If you are planning a big party, outdoor cooking might be the best the way to go. We plan every party from scratch and outdoor events are no exception. On the contrary, it might take a while to put your big event together, starting from checking out the location to see  what is do-able and practicable to making rental arrangements if needed and finally narrowing down the selection of dishes you would like to offer. This page can only give you a few pointers and ideas to think about before we go into the actual planning stage. When you first call A Sense Of Taste about catering your event, Karin will need to know a few things such as  date, location, approximate guest count, occasion and the style you had in mind for your event. Will it be an elegant garden party with table linens, cloth napkins, china plates, glasses or rather an informal Barbecue with paper plates and plastic cups? Do you want a sit-down dinner served restaurant style or should we set up a buffet with chafing dishes? Most of our clients choose buffet-style service which gives their guests more choices to pick what they like . We always recommend however, having servers at the buffet tables to assist with plating the food.

Many clients choose a combination of service styles. A first course salad, for example, will be brought to the tables as in a restaurant and then the main dish is offered buffet-style. Finger Food can be set up as an appetizer buffet as well as passed around by servers. Your choice of service style will affect the number of event staff you’ll need.

You might also check out the Finger Food menu for suitable dishes to accompany your main dishes . If you had a certain dish in mind and it’s not on any of the menus, just ask! Karin might also suggest additional dishes which are suitable for your event.  She will help you put together an attractive selection of dishes to create a balanced and satisfying meal.

A Sense Of Taste also offers full coffee and tea service. We’ll be happy to supply you with all the non-alcoholic beverages you need for your party. Our bar tender will pour alcoholic beverages provided by you.

We work with a local bakery to provide you with everything from excellent dinner rolls to elaborate wedding cakes.

Once Karin has all the information she needs, she will write a detailed proposal.  It will contain

      the dishes you choose
      non-alcoholic beverages
      catering supplies
      rental arrangements
      estimated number and hours of event staff
      service charge
      sales tax
      required deposit to secure your date
      your total balance

 You will have time to review, make changes and fine-tune the proposal. The final guest count needs to be confirmed 7 days prior to the event. Please visit “Prices and Services” for further information.

Dessert Buffet

On the day of your party, our Sense Of Taste team will arrive in time to set up according to agreed upon arrangements. Karin and her onsite cooks will start preparing your meal. Our  service staff will attend to your guests, passing Hors d’Oeuvres and pouring beverages. They will ensure that empty plates and glasses are removed  and that trays always look fresh and appealing.

At the end of your party, our Sense Of Taste team will do a thorough clean up of food stations, tables and dishes. We ask that you provide containers for possible leftovers. When we leave, your  kitchen will look like as though we were never there. Please note that there is an additional cleaning charge  when china and crystal are used (see “Prices and Services”).
